Senior Actuarial Risk Manager
A rare, market-wide opportunity based in Bermuda
A prestigious international organisation is looking for a Senior Actuarial Risk Manager to join a high-profile team operating at the heart of the global life insurance sector. This is a unique role offering unparalleled visibility across a wide range of life insurers and groups, with day-to-day interaction at senior levels and exposure to some of the most interesting, complex, and cutting-edge risk topics in the market.
Unlike a traditional industry role focused on a single balance sheet, this position provides a panoramic view of how different life insurers operate, manage risk, design products, respond to market dynamics, and build long-term financial resilience. The breadth of work is genuinely distinctive — every conversation, analysis, and deep-dive gives you a wider perspective than you could gain inside any one organisation.
What you’ll be doing
-
Leading and developing a talented actuarial and risk team responsible for in-depth assessments across a diverse portfolio of long-term insurers and groups.
-
Enhancing and shaping life insurance risk frameworks, analytical models, and market-wide risk tools.
-
Interpreting economic trends, market insights, solvency complexities, and emerging product risks to understand their impact across the life sector.
-
Working directly with senior leaders within major insurance groups, influencing thinking, challenging assumptions, and contributing to industry-level risk understanding.
-
Overseeing stress testing, scenario modelling, complex transaction reviews, and financial soundness assessments.
-
Carrying out holistic onsite reviews — covering governance, capital, risk exposure, risk management strategies, and forward-looking indicators.
-
Identifying sector-level developments and emerging themes, and turning these insights into meaningful recommendations.
-
Representing the organisation at high-profile industry events and international discussions, gaining insight into global best practice.
The variety is exceptional: one day could involve analysing macroeconomic drivers, the next modelling a complex reinsurance arrangement, and the next talking to senior executives about their strategic risk approach.
What they’re looking for
-
A master’s degree (or equivalent) in actuarial science, finance, accounting, insurance or a related field.
-
Professional designations such as FIA, CERA, ASA, CFA, CA or CPA (or similar).
-
At least ten years’ experience in the life insurance sector, including strong exposure to solvency, capital, ALM, actuarial risk, or enterprise risk.
-
Strong analytical judgement with the ability to make sense of complex and incomplete information.
-
Experience managing high-performing teams and shaping actuarial or risk frameworks.
-
Confidence engaging with senior industry stakeholders and presenting technical insights clearly.
-
Familiarity with the Bermuda life insurance landscape is beneficial but not critical.
Why this role is career-defining
This is not a typical industry position. It offers breadth that simply cannot be replicated inside a single insurer or consultancy. You will gain exposure to multiple business models, product sets, solvency approaches, governance structures, and risk strategies — all in one role.
And critically, the profile and influence that come with this position create career progression opportunities that are unmatched in the market. Alumni of roles like this frequently step into senior leadership positions — Chief Actuary, CRO, Head of Risk, strategy roles, group-level oversight, or high-impact international posts — because they develop judgement, breadth, and credibility that few other roles can offer.
For someone who wants to accelerate their career, develop senior-level judgement, and understand the life sector from a truly market-wide perspective, this opportunity stands out as one of the most unique and impactful in the industry.
